Approximately 600 former Israeli security officials, including previous heads of intelligence agencies, like the Mossad, have written Donald Trump a letter pleading with him to force Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the bombardment and killing campaign against Palestinians in Gaza.
In the letter, the Israeli officials wrote that: “Your credibility with the vast majority of Israelis augments your ability to steer prime minister Netanyahu and his government in the right direction: end the war, return the hostages, stop the suffering.”
This letter is coming on the heels of reports that Netanyahu is planning an expansion of his military bombardment strategy in Gaza, after ceasefire talks stalled, or were sabotaged.
Over 60,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since the the Oct. 7 attack, in 2023. And now the world is witnessing pictures and videos of mass starvation in Gaza. Humanitarian groups have reported that Israel has been blocking aid efforts into Gaza. UN agencies, in particular, have stated that the “worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out.”
Anger has also been fostered, among Israelis, since videos of emaciated Israeli hostages, held by Hamas, were recently released.
Former Shin Bet security agency head, Ami Ayalon, warned against Netanyahu’s plan to expand the bombardment of Gaza.
“At first this war was a just war, a defensive war, but when we achieved all military objectives, this war ceased to be a just war,” Ayalon, said. “This [war] is leading the state of Israel to the loss of its security and identity.”
The letter begged Trump to “Stop the Gaza War! On behalf of CIS, Israel’s largest group of former IDF generals and Mossad, Shin Bet, Police, and Diplomatic Corps equivalents, we urge you to end the Gaza war. You did it in Lebanon. Time to do it in Gaza as well.”
The letter to Trump comes as polls–from across the globe–show that many of the world’s citizens have a negative view of the bombardment and mass slaughter genocide that is taking place now in Gaza.
