South Africa has now been hit with a 30 percent tariff, by the Trump Administration, after the largest economy in Africa was unable to broker a trade deal.

America is South Africa second-largest export market. Crucial South African exports include vehicles, iron and steel products will now be affected by the Trump tariffs.
Relations between the two countries have taken a turn for the worst when South Africa carried a charge of genocide against Israel to the International Court of Justice. Ever since then, Washington politicians has made it clear enough that punishing South Africa was a top priority.
Provocations, particularly by Elon Musk, also possibly played a factor in the Trump White House’s hostility toward South African President Cyril Ramaphosa when he made a trip to Washington, earlier this year.
During a tense White House meeting, Trump made the false claim that genocide, against white people, was taking place in South Africa. Trump also advanced the fictitious charge that the South African government was arbitrarily snatching the land of white farmers. Trump, likely by Musk’s urging, complained about South Africa’s affirmative action programs, which were enacted to address racial inequalities that still exist in the country as a toxic aspect of the legacy from the apartheid era.
Trump’s tariffs are expected to cause chaos in the economy of South Africa. The Central Bank of South Africa recently cautioned that the tariffs could lead to the loss of approximately 100,000 jobs.
