Check your calendars, puzzle solvers NYT Strands — it’s Friday the 13th, a day of superstition, black cats, and the occasional spilled salt. But while some may see it as a day of mischief and bad omens, I say it’s the perfect excuse to dive into the New York Times’ most charming word game: Strands. Today’s puzzle brings beauty, blossoms, and maybe even a wedding aisle into play. Let’s take a look at today’s Strands hints, spangram, and all the answers you need to solve it.
What Is NYT Strands?
If you’re new to Strands, here’s a quick refresher: It’s the latest addition to the NYT puzzle family, combining the addictive nature of a word search with a clever daily theme. Each puzzle has multiple hidden words that relate to a central theme, and there’s one especially important word — the spangram — that stretches from one edge of the board to another, revealing more about the day’s concept.
Today’s theme: “Scattering Petals” — and if that doesn’t scream wedding, I don’t know what does.

Puzzle Breakdown
This was a lighter Strands puzzle in terms of difficulty, especially compared to earlier this week’s brainteasers. I started off spotting POPPY almost immediately — the ‘P’ and ‘Y’ just leapt out — and from there, PETUNIA wasn’t far behind. The letters AZ pretty much gave away AZALEA, although piecing it together still took a few reshuffles.
LILY was nestled cleanly in the center of the grid, waiting to be picked. And once I began focusing on the theme and thought about petal-scattering, FLOWERGIRLS made a grand entrance. That spangram cleared up the puzzle and pointed me toward the final blooms: ROSE, VIOLET, and a last-minute DAISY.
All told, a feel-good, floral-themed puzzle perfect for balancing out the eerie vibes of Friday the 13th. And if you’re the sentimental type, it might’ve even brought back a few sweet memories of weddings past.
