I love playing the NYT Connections game. It is fun and challenging. Every Wednesday, I look forward to the new puzzle. Today is December 4. I got some hints and answers for the game, so let’s dive into it!
First, let’s talk about how the game works. You get a grid with 16 words. Your job is to direct them into four groups of four words each. Each group has a common theme. The themes can be tricky sometimes. Four colors represent the difficulty of each group: yellow is the easiest, and purple is the hardest.

Today’s Nyt Connections Words
Today’s words are: PAN, PINE TREE, LEAD, CANDLE, COMPASS, LOOFAH, TURNTABLE, SHEPHERD, ATLAS, TOILETRIES, ECHO, GUIDE, SEWING KIT, HELEN, DIRECT, JOHNSON.
Today’s Connections Hint
- Yellow group: Think about pointing in the right direction.
- Green group: These are linked by something you might find in a medical clinic or Arya’s sword from Game of Thrones.
- Titan and Nike belong to the same category.
- Purple group: Look for a household fixture.
Today’s Nyt Connections Groups
- Yellow group: steer (STEER, GUIDE, LEAD, SHEPHERD)
- Green group: objects with a needle(s) (COMPASS, PINE TREE, SEWING KIT, TURNTABLE)
- Blue group: characters in Greek myths (ATLAS, ECHO, HELEN, PAN)
- Purple group: terms related to the lavatory that begin with synonyms for the restroom (CANDLE, JOHNSON, LOOFAH, TOILETRIES).
The way the words connected was interesting. Yellow was an easy group of words related to guiding or directing something. Green was challenging because it made me think about items having needles in different ways, but generally, I’ve heard some stories about Greek mythology, so the blue was easier. Finally, it was fun going through the purple since it involved trying to find words that are simply synonyms for lavatory—such things as “loo” and “john.”
I did not get a perfect score today. At first, I thought several words might fit into different categories, but after some thought, I figured out that PINE TREE and CANDLE were not nice-smelling things.
Sometimes playing Connections can be frustrating, but it is rewarding when you finally figure out the connections. I love comparing my results with friends and seeing how others did too!
You can always check back on any given day for hints or answers online if you are stuck on today’s puzzle or want to try again later. The game is designed to be enjoyable, though it can be difficult at times. Each day brings new words and a new theme to explore.
Connections are a great way to challenge your brain, all while having fun with words. Until tomorrow!
