GLADE

A simple, beautiful word—“glade”—evokes the image of a peaceful forest clearing, where sunlight filters softly through the trees. It’s a word that brings a sense of serenity and nature, and it fits perfectly with the summer mood.

Wordle Analysis

Today’s Wordle journey was an interesting one for me. I started with my usual opener—STEAK—which gave me two yellow vowels: A and E. Not a terrible start, but it left 240 possibilities still on the board.

Next, I went with CRANE, one of the more common second guesses. It was a stroke of luck: both the A and E turned green. Nice! But even with those in place, WordleBot informed me I still had 17 possible solutions left. Not ideal.

I spent a while thinking of a word that could test multiple new letters while narrowing down the options. But after overthinking it, I threw caution to the wind and guessed GLADE, just because it felt right—and sure enough, there it was! The Wordle gods smiled upon me today.

Competitive Wordle Score

If you’re keeping score like I do in the Competitive Wordle format, here’s how things break down today:

  • I solved it in 3 guesses, which earns 1 point.
  • I also beat Wordle Bot, which took 4 guesses—so that’s +1 more point.

Total: 2 points for the day.
June Score:

  • Me: 15 points
  • Wordle Bot: 9 points

Want to play competitively? Here’s how the scoring works:

  • Solve it in 1 guess: 3 points
  • In 2 guesses: 2 points
  • In 3 guesses: 1 point
  • In 4: 0 points
  • In 5: -1
  • In 6: -2
  • Miss entirely: -3
  • Beat your opponent: +1
  • Tie: 0
  • Lose: -1
Fridays are 2XP days, meaning double points—good or bad. Saturdays? Just for fun (and pride).

Wordle Etymology

The word “glade” comes from Middle English, and its roots may trace back to Old English glæd, meaning “bright” or “shining.” It’s possibly connected to the Old Norse glöð, also meaning “bright.” The idea is of an open, sunny spot in the woods—literally, where the light breaks through.

It’s a poetic word, and one that’s more common in fantasy novels or nature poetry than daily conversation. Still, it’s nice to see these kinds of words pop up in Wordle—adds a bit of beauty to your day.
