Marvel’s New Thunderbolts* Trailer Release Date & Cast Insights: Marvel Studios and Disney debuts the teaser trailer of the much-awaited movie “Thunderbolts*” on 23 September 2024. A change in the Marvel movie schedule and the infamous writer’s strike in 2023 caused a delay to the initial release date of the movie. Also, after a month of a supposed trailer leak from the SDCC sources, Marvel Studios released it on Monday.
But judging by the looks of the trailer released, the wait was worth it.
The Thunderbolts*( people might be thinking why an asterisk is beside Thunderbolts- It is still unclear, but maybe by the film’s release, we’ll get a definite answer). Marvel is making a similar version to DC’s Suicide Squad(2021), assembling heroes and villains into a team to fight off a threat. The teaser trailer treats us with 3 minutes of pure action, fun and some comedy elements.
The film’s trailer seems excellent, but how will it perform without major superheroes? It is yet to be seen. A great movie can really help the current declining craze for the Marvel Cinematic Universe among the viewers.

The Plot, Cast of Thunderbolts*
The teaser trailer of Thunderbolts* presents us with an irreverent team-up of MCU’s least-expected misfits and the depressed assassin Yelena Belova( Florence Pugh). Many promising characters are seen in the teaser trailer, including- Alexei Shostakov/ Red Guardian( David Harbour), U.S. Agent/John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost/Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster/Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko), and the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).
Thunderbolts* trailer is set after some of the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The movie will tell the story of how some antagonists are being assembled by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) into a shadow ops kind of Avengers-like team to fight off a super-powered threat. Yelena Belova appears depressed on his adopted father’s Alexei Shostakov doorsteps. They both seem depressed about their lives and purpose- sharing a similar feeling with soldier John Walker. But Alexia seems to be at home; Yelena Belova is still active as a spy working for any shady organization that is willing to pay her. She thinks her cure for depression and fulfillment of life’s purpose will come from her work.
What makes it surprising later in the trailer is that all of the powered professional killers, Yelena Belova, John Walker, Ava Starr/Ghost, and Antonio Dreykov(Taskmaster), show up at the same strange building. There appears a mysterious figure, Bob( Lewis Pullman), who seems like a normal person, but he isn’t, so when all the doors of that strange building slam shut, they all know that all of them are consciously trapped there by someone who wants them to be either dead or to assemble into a team.
It is unclear how this team of antagonists will team up together to come out of the trap they all are set in or how they will team up with Bucky Barnes out in the open to fight off that super-powered big threat. And the question is, who is the super-powered threat? Is it Bob? Is it Valentina Allegra de Fontaine who is seen assembling them into a team, supposedly in the former Avengers Headquarters building? The movie’s solid cast and action-driven trailer have certainly increased the excitement of Marvel’s fans.
The trailer comprises certain action-slicing sequences, such as when Yelena Belova throws a knife and it passes through everyone before coming back to her is excellent. The same goes whenever the viewer’s favorite- Bucky Barnes is in the frame. When Bucky Barnes is seen taking his artificial powered hand out of the oven, it gives some serious nostalgia and pun element to the die-hard fans of the MCU and Marvel Comics.
The Thunderbolts* trailer puts Yelena Belova( Florence Pugh) in a central role in the movie, which is best because Florence Pugh is a brilliant actress. Bucky Barnes( Sebastian Stan) seems to be the secondary main character which acts as a cherry on top. Other significant actors like Alexia Shostakov( David Harbour) and John Walker( Wyatt Russell) add a comic element to the trailer, making it a fun and action-driven ride. The mystery around who Taskmaster is given after the events of the film Black Widow adds suspense to the trailer. To add to the suspense, another mysterious character, Bob, is revealed in the trailer. The Thunderbolts* trailer does not give much information about him, but die-hard fans of Marvel’s comics know him as the most powerful superhero who hides a dark secret.
So, the teaser trailer released on Monday is a complete package itself. The Thunderbolts* trailer has all the elements of a fun ride- action, drama, comedy, suspense, and mystery to excite the MCU viewers for the film. The film is to be released on 2nd May 2025, so releasing the teaser trailer almost eight months before seemed like a weird idea at first, but after seeing the trailer, it was a brilliant move by the MCU.
Jake Schreier directs the film and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson are the film’s executive producers.
