After the tremendous response of its first part- Platform(2019), director Galder Gaztelu Urrutia is here in 2024 with its sequel, The Platform 2. Much like its predecessor, the Platform 2019 hit, this movie also brought many twists and suspense. The Platform 2 Ending has left many of its viewers questioning about the end scenes.
The Platform 2019 was a film that depicted human survival at its worst through violent and hardcore scenes. Its sequel, Platform 2, expands on those themes while exploring the more inhumane cruelties. The film portrays a world where humans long for survival at any cost. Both films offer a great social message but cannot be understood at times by the viewers; so, for anyone who didn’t quite understand the ending and what was going on in the film at some points, here is The Platform 2 Ending explained.

The Platform 2 Ending Explained
Before discussing The Platform 2 Ending, we must summarise what happened throughout the film. While the first part displayed human survival at its cruellest part, Platform 2 has a strict law this time- all the prisoners will only get to eat that much as they requested. Anyone who eats more than their requested meals will be punished badly. Dagin Babi( Oscar Jaenada), the leader of this dictatorial pit, enforced this rule to ensure fairness and order. However, this inflexible system, which initially seems to offer relief, is flawed at its core, which Perempuan learns quickly.
What is Perempuan plan at the end of the film?
Perempuan, who used to be an avid follower of the Pit rules, decides to escape the prison after her cellmate Zamiatin(Hovik Keuchkerian) burns himself alive. Dagin Babi brutally kills her new cellmate, and after being punished severely by Dagin Babi herself, she decides to escape this hell prison. She decided to follow the plan that her dead cellmate told her. Her dead cellmate informed her that the prisoners’ managers use sevoflurane gas once a month to make the prisoners unconscious for the floor change.
Perempuan blocks her airways by chewing pieces of a dog’s painting. She becomes unconscious for a shorter time duration. Everything goes according to her plan as when she is awake, she finds the cleaners are attaching her body to the harness that collects all dead bodies. She is being taken to the very bottom of the Pit where all the dead bodies are taken( where Goreng, from the first part, was taken to after his death).
However, what changes her whole plan and utterly shocks the viewers is when Perempuan sees a little boy being brought to the very bottom level of Pit 333. At this particular moment, she faces a difficult choice- whether to act selfishly and escape to the surface of the Pit or to die and let the little boy go and save him from the cruel Pit. She chooses the second option and sacrifices herself to save the little boy. While saving the child, she hits her head, implying that, like the character of Goreng in The Platform(2019), she died too in The Platform 2 Ending.

The final moments of the film- A glimpse into the afterlife?
The most confusing part of the film is probably The Platform 2 Ending. After sacrificing herself to save the little boy, she hits her head and is presumed to be dead. After she dies, the screen shifts to another platform below level 333, supposedly a scene showcasing the afterlife of Perempuan. The scene can also interpret Perempuan’s conscience. In this mind-boggling scene that leaves all the viewers utterly confused, Perempuan meets the spirits of her dead cellmates- Zamiatin and her fellow cellmate who told her the escaping plan.
Is The Platform 2 a sequel or a prequel?
Most people thought Platform 2 was a sequel to the Platform(2019 hit), but Platform 2 Ending explained that the film was a prequel to the 2019 hit. The ending scene of Platform 2 continues with the first film’s ending, which portrays Goreng’s story. Perempuan is there to greet him. The two embrace and Perempuan asks him what he was doing there, implying they both had a connection before entering the Pit. The fact that Perempuan is there to greet Goreng implies that Perempuan’s story has already taken place. Based on the two films’ plots, it also makes sense to suggest that there was some order and rule before it eventually descended into that brutal chaos as depicted in the first film.
Another thing supporting the fact that Platform 2 is a prequel is the appearance of old characters from the first film. In Platform 2, viewers see Trimagasi( a character from the previous movie) in one of his earlier cells on the Pit. When the people see Perempuan waking up on Level 72 with Trimagasi, it is evidence enough that the second part is the first part of The Platform series.
The Platform 2 Ending: Mid-Credit scene
The final mid-credit scene of The Platform 2 ending showcases a surprising twist. The Authority has been running several prisons like The Pit across several countries. The scene portrays little children being put into many Pits. The scene is enough to prove that children are the prime focus of this cruel experiment. This scene shows the pathetic mindset of the authorities to engage little children in such cruel psychological experiments. However, it provided an interesting buildup for the story of the next part if director Galder Gaztelu Urrutia decides to make one.
The Platform 2 is streaming on Netflix.
