Halle Bailey plays the role of a young girl, Zaya. The girl escapes from an isolated and dominating society and reaches into the wild. Ochi was magically connected to nature however, it was believed that he was only a part of old stories. Further, Zaya and Ochi lead a mission to heal the world and bring the people back to their spiritual connections, broken by technology nowadays. The story then continues to an exciting climax which we will discuss today.

Zaya Chooses Peace over War
Zaya makes a big and ultimate decision in the final scenes of the movie. She decides not to destroy her former society with Ochi’s help and rather chooses a peaceful option.
Apparently, Zaya offers herself as a connection between the two worlds- the world of people and nature. As a result, Zaya touches a huge tree, located in the heart of the forest. This leads to a connection between her mind and some mysterious force that manages to live. Suddenly Ochi disappears into some bright light suggesting that his role is over now. Consequently, Zaya is now the keeper of the world to maintain a balance between humans and nature.
The people from Zaya’s former civilization witnessed all this, but instead of fighting or arguing they all kneel in respect. And then the film ends in silence, with a flower flourishing on a burnt land, suggesting that with hope, even new life is possible.
Review: A Story Beyond the Screen
The Legend of Ochi does not end simply, it leaves a clue. The movie leaves the audience with certain emotions and ideas, forcing them to have deep thoughts about it. The story basically conveys the power of choosing peace over power and the strength of harmony over victory.
While a few in the audience may be frustrated by the ambiguous ending, however, the fact that it’s done on purpose is not neglected. Similar to the old myths by which the film is inspired, Ochi made a place in your mind and now lingers in your imagination.
