After years of speculation and goodbyes, Ted Lasso is officially back for Season 4, and Apple TV+ has dropped the first look image and cast list. The photo is of familiar faces at a BBQ joint in Kansas City, Missouri, Ted and Jason Sudeikis’ hometown. Filming is underway in the US, and more scenes will be shot in London. Ted Lasso Season 4 is going to be familiar and new.
This season, Ted has a whole new challenge: coaching a second division women’s football team. As the story moves away from the men’s team at AFC Richmond, the cast is evolving too. Fans will be happy to know many of your favourite characters are back, and some new names are joining the team.
Returning Cast: The Heart of Richmond Lives On
Whatever happened, it will have cast its shadow on the actors who have come to grace us with their presence once again, for the fourth time. It is this wondrous concoction of sentiments limned by witty cosimplicial humor and steadfast hope that might have elevated the show to an international hit.
Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso
Jason Sudeikis is the main personality who is essentially an American football coach turned English football manager. Sudeikis, who also executive produces and co-created the series, lends warmth and depth to a character that can teach by example, kindness, and personal development. Coaching a women’s team gives Ted a completely new direction in his story.
Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton
Waddingham stars again as Rebecca Welton, the dull yet fair-minded owner of AFC Richmond. Rebecca arguably had one of the more interesting character arcs since she was transforming from a vengeful team owner to embracing her role as a benevolent leader. Her business skills, friendship with Keeley and mentoring of Ted will all continue to evolve as the club enters a new chapter.
Juno Temple as Keeley Jones
Juno Temple returns as Keeley Jones. From model to entrepreneur, Keeley’s character has grown so much, and her relationships with Roy and Rebecca will remain at the heart of the show. Temple has been Emmy-nominated multiple times and widely praised for her performance. One of the show’s unsung heroes, Jeremy Swift, returns as Leslie Higgins, Rebecca’s right-hand man.
Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent
The gruff but lovable Roy Kent is back. Goldstein also writes and executive produces the show and has won two consecutive Emmys for his performance. Roy’s journey from star player to coach and his struggles with purpose and vulnerability have resonated with fans. Season 4 will likely continue this.
Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard
Watching the show, it becomes more evident that Hunt is actively influencing the unconventional humor and emotional depth that are at the heart of what makes the series work.
New Additions to the Ted Lasso Universe
Season 4’s biggest change is Ted coaching a women’s football team, and with that comes new characters, many of whom are yet to be revealed. But Apple TV+ has confirmed several new faces joining the show.
Tanya Reynolds
Known from shows such as Sex Education, Tanya Reynolds graces the Ted Lasso cast with her charm. The role is yet to be detailed, but one would imagine her wit, vulnerability, and eccentricity would fill a perfect dimension within the show.
Jude Mack
Jude Mack from Prime Target joins the cast in a role to be revealed. She’s expected to be one of the players or staff of the new women’s team and will bring fresh energy and perspective to the show.
Faye Marsay
A seasoned actress from Game of Thrones and Andor, Faye Marsay adds drama to the cast. Marsay’s versatility and intensity point to a leadership role, possibly within the team Ted now coaches or as a rival.
Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern
These up-and-coming stars Rex Hayes (The Pact), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World: Dominion) and Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane) are also joining the ensemble. Their characters are secret, but they’re likely to be players on the new women’s team, each with their personalities and storylines.
Grant Feely as Henry Lasso
Previously played by Gus Turner, the role is now taken over by Grant Feely from Obi-Wan Kenobi. His inclusion means Ted’s role as a father will be more prominent this season, possibly with Henry visiting his dad or staying with him in Richmond.
Surprising Absences (So Far)
Though many are returning, some are missing from the announcements:
- Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) is not listed. Jamie was a big part of the redemption arc and personal growth in Season 3.
- Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) is not listed.
But Apple TV+ might be holding back some casting news for narrative reasons or surprise appearances. Fans are hoping these characters will return, even in guest roles.
Behind the Scenes: Writers and Producers
The creative team is still intact for Season 4:
- Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence are back as executive producers.
- Brett Goldstein, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee and Leanne Bowen continue to write and produce.
- Jack Burditt joins as executive producer under a new Apple TV+ deal.
Together, they’ll keep the show’s heart and humor.
