TRANSPORTATION ADVOCATES AND ELECTED OFFICIALS TO MTA AND GOVERNOR CUOMO: WE NEED BETTER SERVICE—NOT MORE POLICE
[Transportation News\MTA Policing]
State Senator Alessandra Biaggi: “Instead of spending $249 million on a new police force, the MTA should increase bus and train service or make much-needed repairs to our ailing public transportation system. At a time when the MTA is already operating in the red, spending millions to hire more police officers is nonsensical and will just contribute to the over-policing of low-income New Yorkers and communities of color.”

NY TRANSIT AND POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY ADVOCATES TO GOVERNOR CUOMO: INVEST IN MTA SERVICE UPGRADES NOT MORE MTA POLICE
[New York News\MTA]
Riders Alliance Community Organizer Danna Dennis: “Riders need more subways and buses, not an expensive new police force. Governor Cuomo should cancel his order for the MTA to hire new police officers it cannot afford and doesn’t need. The governor needs to face the facts: crime is down and ridership is up. New Yorkers need more service and less surveillance, more public transit and less abuse of the public trust.”

[New York News\MTA]
Afua Atta-Mensah, Executive Director of Community Voices Heard: “The crackdown on low-income communities of color trying to access public transit must end. We cannot stand by as the MTA and the NYPD continue to criminalize poverty and harass working-class people. We are proud to stand with organizations and individuals who are fighting back against this onslaught. Together, we are all working to build a city that is accessible and affordable for all New Yorkers.”

TRANSIT ADVOCATES TO GOVERNOR CUOMO: MORE MONEY IS NEED TO UPGRADE NYC BUS LINES
[Transit News\ NYC Bus Redesign Program]
Riders Alliance member Latchmi Gopal: “We are happy that the MTA is redesigning all the routes, but in order for the MTA’s redesign to make a difference, we need to see Governor Cuomo commit the necessary funds to make this effort successful and reflective of the needs of the community. This kind of grand investment in our transit systems happens once every 50 years but it only works if the governor puts state money where his mouth is. Too often, the already marginalized members of this city aren’t treated fairly or given necessary public services. It is especially pertinent to invest in better transit for Black and Brown Communities.”
