NY AG James: “The CFPB’s proposed rule puts the interests of debt collectors ahead of consumers. Too many New Yorkers suffer from harassment and abuse at the hands of debt collectors. Rather than reign them in, the CFPB is proposing to give them new avenues to do harm by allowing debt collectors to contact consumers using social media and email.”
