The second season, right from the very beginning, has shaken up everything we knew so far about Sophie’s character. The first season portrayed a soft and uncertain Sophie who was trying to figure out life after a devastating suicide attempt. However, she is now replaced with Sophie, who has an edge in her character. Mbatha-Raw is seen rocking a sleek bob haircut, dark and bold lips, along with a shiny silver gown. Sophie has moved away from both her husband and the US while she digs deeper into her past.
Sophie To Uncover A Major Scandal?
Sophie’s character is reintroduced into season 2 at an auction where she casually buys symphony tickets worth $25,000. She then seems to be hacking her way into various applications with the help of her high-tech gadgets. Her eyes are clearly set on her target which is Eliza Huntley. They run right into each other in the first episode, raising suspicion in Eliza’s mind about Sophie’s sudden disappearance and then reappearance. Eliza then naturally confided about this with her brother Quinn.
As Sophie digs deeper into the Huntley family, she discovers their wealth is sourced from years of unsolved criminal history. This gives both the viewers as well as Sophia more to think about. However, things take a massive twist again when a journalist named Callum calls Sophie making her understand what’s at stake. Jackson-Cohen has also returned to the second season of Surface as her husband James who has grieved his wife Sophie twice. James is still portrayed as the loving husband Sophie left behind. However, this time he’s on the lookout for answers. He’s still manipulative when it comes to Sophie. But, there is an added layer of sadness in his character that makes him seem less of a threat. The tension between him and Sophie can be sensed easily.
Other major characters also add a certain charm to the show with their presence. Eliza’s brother Quinn adds the morally gray character charm to the show as well while his fiance Grace brings a theme of elegance. However, it all seems like a facade that is cracked deep within.
