By NBC News Photos: NBC News\YouTube Screenshots The U.S. women’s gymnastics team completed their quest for redemption in a stunning fashion this afternoon at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Led by Simone Biles, the women won gold in the team final, three years after Biles withdrew from the same event in Tokyo citing her mental health, and the team finished with the silver. Biles has now officially become the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympic Games with eight medals. But it was a heartbreaking finish for one of Team USA’s other superstars, Coco Gauff, who lost an argument with a chair umpire and her third-round singles match to Croatia’s Donna Vekic. The men’s triathlon race that was scheduled for this morning has been postponed, after officials acknowledged the Seine River remains too contaminated for safe swimming. And Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina is going viral for this gravity-defying photo that was snapped after he caught a huge wave during the competition happening in Tahiti. |
