Wrestling Legend Sabu (Terry Brunk) Dies at 60 – Remembering the ECW Icon

Sabu, or the real identity behind this name, Terry Brunk, unfortunately, died at 60. The unexplained cause of death makes it more intriguing. He was a WWE sensation and pioneer worldwide, who served immensely in the ECW matches for almost his entire life. His nickname comes from an Indian-American actor named Sabu Dastagir, who was admired by Sabu as well as his uncle.

Nickname Sabu and the Story Behind It

Sabu is a pretty cool nickname Terry Brunk has chosen, that is short and precise just like his personality- mysterious and straight to the point. The story of choosing of his nickname choice is pretty unique.

Sabu’s uncle, The Sheik, was an admirer of Sabu Dastagir and followed his work diligently. The actor had played roles and owned them in The Thief of Bagdad and The Jungle Book. His work shows passion. Sabu’s uncle, a wrestler, saw that in Sabu and thus gave him this nickname. After some time, his nephew proved that his decision was perfect. Maybe he got these genes from his family, that he carries himself so well.

Sabu “The Wrestling Pioneer”

Sabu was not just any wrestler, he was the face of ECW. No one dared to speak up when he was in the ring, leaping on the opponent like a tiger and holding his winning flag. He is a wrestler with such an Aura that all you can see is him on the stage flexing his skills. We have lost a gem and a wrestling idol whose place will always be in our hearts.

He worked with ECW since the 1930s and 40s and marked his win after every match with such force that it was not possible to ignore. However, Sabu’s journey to wrestling is not just from ECW. He has dived off chairs, tables, and barbed wires to reach this position. Nothing comes without sacrifice and hard work. He is known for his passion and fierceness in wrestling.

He has won titles like ECW World Heavyweight and several Television titles, including the thethree-times tag team gold for his diligent hard work.

Sabu has not only shown his competitiveness in ECW but also in other wrestling manias throughout the globe. He has traveled to New Japan, WCW, AAA, TNA, and WWE to show his superiority and strength in the field. After ECW was sold, he decided to move on to WWE in 2006 to continue his career in wrestling.

Unknown to life’s plan, he played his last match of WrestleMania in Vegas, competing against his opponent, Joey Janela. He played fearlessly as if he were still 25. Sabu just retired last month to get some rest and quality time for himself after giving the whole of his life to his career.
