NEW YORK, NY (Wednesday, January 3) – Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network (NAN), will lead a picket outside the office of hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman to protest his campaign against diversity, equity, and inclusion. Rev. Sharpton has decried Ackman’s attacks on Harvard University President Claudine Gay, who stepped down Tuesday as the first Black woman to head the school, including claims she was a DEI hire.
Civil rights leaders including Rev. Sharpton have lambasted Ackman’s attacks, noting they are a greater threat to the DEI movement as a whole.
“Bill Ackman’s attacks were not simply about Claudine Gay — they were to kill DEI,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. “This was just the canary in the coalmine for him. Now that he was able to silence President Gay, Ackman’s campaign against DEI will only pick up steam unless we take a stand. That’s why we’ll be outside his office to show this nation who he really is.”
