Today, the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump started, but the Republicans Party has made it clear they aren’t interested in the proceedings and won’t convict Trump for his crime of attempting to overthrow the government, on Jan. 6, despite the abundance of evidence.

The Republicans are, again, aiding-and-abetting Trump.

In so doing, they are making it clear they don’t really believe in the “rule of law.” If they did, they would be taking this trial more seriously—and Trump would likely be convicted for the coup attempt on the Capitol.

This second impeachment trial will do more damage in discrediting the Republican Party.

At least five people lost their lives on Jan. 6, including three police officers. Jeffrey Smith, a D.C. Police officer, and Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood both committed suicide in the aftermath of the insurrection. And, Officer Brian Sicknick was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher.

Other officers have been seriously injured including one who lost several fingers and one who may become blind.

But Republicans who often talk about “law and order” have been calling for unity and no accountability.

This second impeachment trial will not convict Donald Trump but it will, figuratively, convict the Republican Party as one that cares only about raw political power and careerism–and not about the good of the country.
