On Saturday, October 31, the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations will lead a march from Malcolm X Park to the White House to demand Reparations. The march will be preceded by a gathering on Friday, October 30 at One DC Black Workers Center, and followed by a conference on Sunday, November 1 at Arlington Court Suites Hotel.

The 3-day mobilization marks the 25-year anniversary of the 2001 United Nations World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, held in Durban, South Africa. At that historic conference, the nations of the world resolved to support the demand for Reparations for slavery and colonialism. The U.S. and Israel were alone in their opposition.
This March, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a Durban-inspired historic African Union resolution presented by Ghana, declaring the transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans and racialized chattel slavery to be “the gravest crime against humanity.”
Black is Back Coalition Chairman Omali Yeshitela was the chief organizer of the First World Tribunal on Reparations to Black People, held in Brooklyn in 1982, which found the U.S. government guilty of committing genocide and owing Black people $4.1 Trillion for stolen labor alone.

Chairman Omali opened that Tribunal with the words, “If we are to charge the United States government with crimes against our people which have become traditional over nearly 400 years, we must begin with the origin of the problem, and there is no way we can possibly do this without showing the connection between the attack on Africa, the initiation of the slave trade, and their fundamental, decisive role in the development of the capitalist system and the loss of freedom for black people throughout the world.”
The Black is Back Coalition is made up of 19 Black organizations joining forces to advance its National Black Political Agenda for Self-Determination, found at: https://blackisbackcoalition.org/19-point-agenda/
