WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) issued the following statement regarding inclusion of a provision committing the federal government to cover 100% of the rebuild costs for the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the continuing resolution that will be considered by the U.S. House and Senate ahead of a December 20, 2024 deadline to avoid a government shutdown.
“This has been a nine-month fight to make sure that Baltimore City and Baltimore County are made whole again. And now, we are able to secure the full funding of the Francis Scott Key Bridge rebuild which the Congress will vote on in the next 48 hours – this means so much to all of us throughout the state and in particular the residents of Dundalk and Turner Station, our hardworking longshoremen, commuters, and small businesses throughout Maryland that rely on the bridge and the waterway,” said Congressman Kweisi Mfume . “Working alongside Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and the entire Maryland Congressional Delegation, this was a true, bipartisan effort across both chambers of Congress,” he concluded.
