Leaders in the effort to stop police from killing unarmed people with impunity will be in Staten Island Friday at the site where Eric Garner died when Officer Daniel Pantaleo put him a chokehold.  Some have lost family members to NYPD violence.

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network said Wednesday, in reference to a $5.9 million settlement paid by the City of New York to Garner’s family: “No payout can cover the stain of murder on the hands of the NYPD whose officers killed Eric Garner on 7/17/14.”

“When this murder happened, people took to the streets. More people went into the streets when Michael Brown was murdered less than a month later. We need to be back out in the streets, letting everybody know that we haven’t forgotten, and that we still refuse to suffer these horrors in silence.”
