Most Americans are facing various levels of stress because of food prices, especially as these prices continue to rise, and amid uncertainty about the impact of Donald Trump’s tariffs, a new poll finds.

Around half of Americans say grocery prices are a “major” cause of stress in their lives. 33 percent say food costs are a “minor” reason for stress. Only 14 percent of Americans say grocery prices have no stressful affect on them.
The numbers are from a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
The poll also found that 64 percent of low-income Americans (earning less than $30,000 a year) called grocery costs a “major” source of stress.
Participants in the poll said the cost of housing, and the money in their bank accounts, are also major stressors.
The rising price of groceries have made many Americans make adjustments including looking around for cheaper grocery stores–with some also turning to “buy now, pay later” services like Afterpay or Klarna.
