POLICE RELEASE WANTED PHOTO OF SUSPECT IN THE MURDER OF POPULAR QUEENS BARBER

The NYPD has released a photograph of the man they believe killed a well-known and beloved barber from Queens in a botched robbery.

Zanu Simpson was shot and killed last week after leaving the Breezes Highland Bar & Grill in Springfield Gardens. Simpson was shot in the head around 12:30 a.m. as he sat in a white BMW X5 SUV parked near the corner of South Conduit Avenue and Lansing Avenue in Springfield Gardens. He later died at Jamaica Hospital.

Police caught surveillance video of a man in gray sweats getting into a gray sedan and fleeing the scene.

A Ruger pistol and 9mm shell casing was found at the crime scene.

Police later identified Tyson Boateng, 31, of 209-56 111th Avenue in Queens as a possible suspect in Simpson’s murder.

Strickly Skillz Barbershop, where Simpson worked and co-owned with his brother, has been closed since his murder as community members, patrons, and mourners continue to line the front of the shop with cards and flowers and balloons.

Simpson celebrated his 32nd birthday July 8, just two weeks before he was murdered.
