What does a Black Ski club do during the summer? Well, Black Ski, Inc. of Washington, D.C. hosts a crab feast every July.

This year, Black Ski celebrated its 5th season of holding the event at the coastal Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Maryland overlooking the majestic Chesapeake Bay. Beneath a billowing blue and white sky, this year’s celebrants dined on savory smoked chicken, burgers and ribs, with all the fixings, catered by Lefty’s of Waldorf, Maryland. The famous blue crabs were brought straight from the Chesapeake Bay. Each year, the food and the festivities just get better and better.

One long-time Black Ski member, Eleanor Lauderdale, said, “It’s a lot more than great crabs – it’s the camaraderie, and I look forward to it every year. It’s a must for the summer.”

A newcomer to the crab feast, Michael Howard, added, “Prepare your digestive system  for a true feast.”

Black Ski, Inc. is one of the charter clubs of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (“NBS”). Chartered in 1974, the NBS is the umbrella organization of 60 clubs spread throughout the United States united under the following mission statement:

To identify, develop and support athletes of color who will WIN international and Olympic winter sports competitions representing the United States and to increase participation in winter sports.

NBS members have skied all over the world – from Maine to Colorado to California, not to mention Europe, South America and New Zealand. There is no place with mountains and snow that has not seen the remarkable skiers of the NBS.

You do not have to be a skier to join a NBS club. Any club will welcome you, invite you to a learn-to-ski weekend or just let you enjoy the non-slope events, such as the Crab Feast! NBS clubs also sponsor other fun-filled activities like horseback riding in the country, group cycling, golf, bowling, white-water rafting, beach parties and more.

So if you enjoy skiing and general camaraderie,  locate a club in your area by visiting nbs.org.
