The following press statement was release by the Office of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo regarding the visit of Kenyan President William Ruto:

This November 21, 2022, the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, arrived in Kinshasa for an official visit. His arrival follows a working visit by the former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the designated facilitator in the Nairobi process.

This first official visit by the Kenyan President is in line with the Nairobi process with regard to the deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in North Kivu province.

Welcomed at N’djili international airport by the VPM and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula, and Professor Serge Tshibangu, special representative of the Head of State, the Kenyan President will meet his Congolese counterpart Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo this Monday morning.

The two Heads of State will have a tête-à-tête at the Palais de la Nation this Monday morning, followed by a bilateral meeting between the delegations of the two states.

At the end of this summit meeting, the two Heads of State will address the press to debrief their exchanges.

Since his election last September, President William Ruto has committed himself to pursue closer relations between the DRC and Kenya, as well as providing support for the Nairobi peace process on the disarmament and demobilization of armed groups operating in the eastern provinces of the country.
