On Thursday, February 20th, The Founding Chapter of One Hundred Black Men will host its 40th Annual Benefit Gala, 2020: The Best is Yet to Come, Celebrating Our Past While Remaining Steadfast Towards Our Future.
The event will benefit the Junior 100 Scholarship Program.
One Hundred Black Men has a storied history with cultural richness drawn from long-time members who exemplify the best of Black excellence. This year’s honorees embody a cross-sector of Black achievement and this year’s ceremony delineates a rich tapestry where past meets present. The Gala will take place at The Sheraton Times Square.
Expounding on the gala’s theme, Executive Director of the One Hundred Black Men, Courtney Bennett said, “In today’s climate it is necessary to remain focused on the future and what we can do to create a greater tomorrow, not only for ourselves, but also the next generation. One Hundred Black Men has long been a staple within the African American community for propelling change and striving tirelessly to see that change remain a constant for the betterment of our community. The honorees selected this year are reflective of that same mindset, working in tandem with us to assist in helping create scholarship opportunities for the leaders of tomorrow.”
Notable allies in the movement, this year’s honorees include: Mandell Crawley, Head of Private Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley; Quentin Roach, Senior Vice President, Business Development & Supplier Management Groups & Chief Procurement Officer for Merck; Kim Godwin, Executive Vice President, CBS National News; Nikole Hannah-Jones, Journalist (1619 Project); John Elefterakis, Founding Partner of Panek; Rachel Noerdlinger, Managing Director for Mercury; Scott Bremerman, President East Region, UPS.
Exemplifying One Hundred Black Men’s philanthropic mission, this year’s dynamic honorees have gone above-and- beyond, in their respective fields, to champion for change.
Acknowledging these concerted efforts, President of the One Hundred Black Men, Michael J. Garner said, “We sought out honorees that were aligned with the mission of One Hundred Black Men and whose hope is to see, in our lifetime, a continued growth for our community and the next generation. It is our responsibility to acknowledge the voices that are taking a stand against injustices and to join forces in the race to fight inequality. Our greatest challenge, the disproportionate percentage of Black youth that attend college, is also our greatest source of pride because every year we award over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving young men and women, offering them a platform to truly excel. Coupling that with our mentoring programs, One Hundred Black Men takes an integral role in addressing these issues.”
