Today we celebrate Labor Day, an annual commemoration of the crucial social and economic achievements of the American worker.

Coincidentally, today also is the 50th anniversary of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), the federal law that for the first time set important standards to protect the retirement and healthcare benefits of private-sector workers.    There are numerous successes of ERISA that we can applaud today, but there remain ongoing challenges associated with the law. In recognition of this important milestone, we’ve published a new Forbes column reflecting on ERISA’s history and looking ahead to policy improvements that could strengthen retirement outcomes for American workers.
Read The Column   And we hope you’ll join us later this week for a webinar, ERISA at 50. An expert panel of speakers will provide important insight on key accomplishments stemming from this law and continued challenges facing America’s private employer retirement system.     Scheduled for Thursday, September 5th at 2:00 PM ET, speakers will include: Dan Doonan, NIRS Executive Director Mark Iwry, Brookings Nonresident Senior Fellow Jason Russell, Segal Senior Vice President and Actuary  Chantel Sheaks, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Retirement Policy    We hope you enjoy Labor Day, and we look forward to connecting with you this week during the webinar.
