Oklahoma City Thunder: Team History, Key Players & 2024 Season Updates

One of the NBA’s North American official basketball teams is the Oklahoma City Thunder. The abbreviated name for it is OKC. In the Northwest Division of the Western Conference, it is a member. Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma, USA, serves as its official stadium. Originally from Seattle, Washington, it was established in 1967 as the Seattle SuperSonics. It took on its present nickname after relocating to Oklahoma City in 2008. In 1979, while it was still known as the SuperSonics, it won its first NBA Finals.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, who finished as the top position in the 2024 NBA Playoffs conference semifinals, lost although leading the extremely close Western Conference with an overall score of 57 wins and 25 defeats the previous season.

Still, the squad has been progressively strengthening its roster since the season’s conclusion and entering the free-agent market. The squad signed veteran Alex Caruso and transferred Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls on June 22.

The squad acquired Serbian guard Nikola Topic in the proposal, and it has made a number of transactions to enhance its lineup. The team reportedly signed a three-year, $87 million deal with Isaiah Hartenstein, an unsigned free agent, on July 2.

Hartenstein, 26, is a large man who weighs 113 kg and measures 213 cm. Halfway through the previous season, he was named the New York Knicks’ main center. In 75 games (49 of those being starts), he averaged 25.3 mins, 7.8 scores, 8.3 recovers, 2.5 contributions, 1.2 steals, 1.1 barriers, and a 64.4 percent field goal success rate.

In addition to Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Luguentz Dort, Caruso, Kason Wallace, and Kenrich Williams, the team adds some strong great men, most notably Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Thunder also announced on the 2nd that they had reached new agreements with 2 reserve players.

They retained both Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe, who became unrestricted independent players, for the long run after opting out of their contracts. Wiggins and Joe carried team options this season. According to ESPN, Wiggins will get a 5-year, $47 million contract, while Joe will commit to a 4-year, $48 million contract. Joe averaged 18.5 minutes, 8.2 scores, 2.3 recovers, 1.3 helps, and a 3-point hitting percentage of 41.6% (1.9 hits on average) in 78 games during the previous season. Wiggins averaged 15.7 minutes, 6.9 scores, 2.4 recovers, 1.1 contributions, and a 56.2% percentage for field goals in 78 games during the third season. The Thunder, who have a talented squad, will go into this season hoping to make it to the Conference Finals, which they were unable to do last year.

With youthful, gifted players like James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder were an outstanding Western club when fans first began to support them.

The 2011–2012 season was the Thunder’s golden age; they advanced to the NBA Playoff Finals but were defeated by the Miami Heat, who had LeBron James. The Thunder haven’t made it through the NBA Finals since, even though they are a strong club.

For the Thunder, 2019 marked a significant breaking point. The team’s face and most well-liked franchise player, Russell Westbrook, was transferred to the Rockets.

It turned out that he has been a Thunder player after joining the organization was more unbelievable than the trades of Durant in 2016 and Harden in 2012. The squad is going to go on a rebuilding season after being completely destroyed this season.

There are numerous reasons why Thunder supporters and fans have fallen in love with and are still loyal to the team, but there’s also a thing concerning their basketball that attracts us. Their quickness allows them to keep winning even against their opponents and win the game, regardless of the number of points they’ve fallen behind. They are also quite attractive because of their committed teamwork. After all, the organization’s stability is made clear by the primary office’s strength.
