Welcome back to your daily puzzle NYT Strands fix with the NYT Strands. It’s Saturday, June 7th, and if you’re looking to flex those brain muscles, today’s puzzle offers a pleasant yet introspective theme. Whether you’re sipping on your morning coffee or relaxing on a weekend break, let’s dive into today’s Strands puzzle breakdown—complete with theme clues, spangram insights, and a full solution guide.

What Is NYT Strands?

For those just joining the fun, Strands is the latest addition to the New York Times’ puzzle portfolio. It’s a clever twist on the traditional word search, tasking players with uncovering words related to a daily theme. The catch? There’s no word list. You’re working off context clues, intuition, and a very helpful “spangram”—a special word or phrase that connects two opposite sides of the board and encapsulates the puzzle’s theme.

Every word you find reveals more about the day’s concept. And today? It’s all about you.

Today’s Strands Hints for June 7th

If you were expecting a Popeye-themed puzzle (like I initially was), you’re not alone. After all, “I am what I am” is the spinach-slinging sailor’s iconic line. But alas, the Times had a more philosophical route in mind today.

Hint #1:

Unfortunately, this is not a reference to Popeye the Sailor Man.

Hint #2:

This is actually about you.

Hint #3:

All answers describe a sense of identity or being.

And just in case you need a leg-up, here are the first two letters of today’s words:

  • HU
  • IN
  • SO
  • SO
  • MO
  • PE
  • BE

Today’s Spangram: BEYOURSELF

The spangram today—BEYOURSELF—ties the theme together beautifully. It’s a gentle reminder that authenticity is key. This phrase spans the board and helps unlock the surrounding answers, all of which revolve around human identity, existence, and individuality.

Today’s Full Word List:

  1. HUMAN – The most basic identifier. A word that connects us all.
  2. INDIVIDUAL – Signifies uniqueness. You’re not just part of a crowd.
  3. SOUL – Deeply spiritual, sometimes philosophical. A true essence.
  4. SOMEONE – You’re somebody, not nobody. A subtle but powerful word.
  5. MORTAL – A reminder of our finite nature, tying into the human experience.
  6. PERSON – A catch-all, but deeply personal. We are each a person, first and foremost.

Puzzle Strategy & My Thought Process:

When I saw the theme, “I Am What I Am,” my brain immediately jumped to Popeye. I searched for spinach, sailor, and cartoon-related clues. No luck. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon SOUL that things clicked. “Ah, this is about identity,” I thought. Soon after, HUMAN popped up, which pointed toward PERSON and then INDIVIDUAL.

BEYOURSELF became clear after uncovering a few of the simpler words, especially when the “B” and “F” stood out at the opposite corners of the board. Once the spangram was identified, it guided the search direction and helped eliminate false leads.

The hardest word today? INDIVIDUAL. It’s longer, a little trickier to spot, and has an irregular shape on the board. But when I found it, it tied everything together—each word speaks to personal essence, uniqueness, and humanity.
