NYC Mayoral Race: Trump’s Offer To Adams “So Rotten Even Boss Tweed Would Say It Stinks”

The Trump White House has reportedly offered New York City Mayor Eric Adams a position in the administration, reportedly at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, if he exits the NYC mayoral race, along with Curtis Sliwa, to give former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo a better shot at beating Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. Adams is polling at 7 percent, below Sliwa at 14 percent. Cuomo sits at 24 percent and Mamdani is way ahead of the pack at over 40 percent.

The news has angered many, who see it as yet another backdoor bartering bargaining scheme that undermines democracy.

In response to the news, Public Citizen democracy advocate Jon Golinger issued the following statement:

“This smells like a scheme so rotten even Boss Tweed would say it stinks.  Attempting to influence election outcomes by turning important public jobs into a taxpayer-funded political patronage ploy is super-sleazy.  If there are outside ‘advisors’ empowered to dangle government jobs on behalf of President Trump for political purposes, the American people are entitled to know who they are.  These ‘advisors’ should either come forward or be found.”
