Leading mayoral candidates Andrew Yang and Eric Adams clashed on drug legalization during a forum on criminal justice issues Wednesday.
Speaking about their stances on illicit drugs during a virtual forum sponsored by Vocal-NY Wednesday night, Adams said he is opposed to “decriminalizing” possession of small amounts of hard drugs such as cocaine and heroin.
Yang said he would support decriminalizing possessing small of all drugs, and instead wants to steer people into substance-abuse treatment.
“No. I don’t support that. I’m an ex [police officer]. So, I have a different view of some of these things,” Adams, the current Brooklyn borough president, said.
