NY Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is asking for passage of Justice in Policing Act of 2020.

Today, U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and Members of the House Democratic Caucus to announce the Justice in Policing Act of 2020.

The bill will hold police accountable, improve transparency in policing and create meaningful, structural change to help eradicate police brutality.

The bill includes H.R. 4408, the Eric Garner Excessive Use of Force Prevention Act, legislation Rep. Jefferies introduced to make “the application of any pressure to the throat or windpipe which may prevent or hinder breathing or reduce intake of air” by law enforcement illegal under 18 U.S.C. § 242, “Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.”

U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) is Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and a member of the House Judiciary and House Budget Committees. He represents parts of Brooklyn and Queens in the United States Congress.
