NY City Council Caucus Condemns Firing of Employee In Pantaleo Leak

Pantaleo — the cop who lynched Garner with his arm

Progressive Caucus Statement on Eric Garner Case Leak:

The New York City Council Progressive Caucus is outraged over the abrupt removal of a New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) employee for leaking the disciplinary record of NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo. Officer Pantaleo has yet to receive appropriate disciplinary action after putting Mr. Eric Garner in a fatal chokehold that tragically ended Garner’s life. For almost three years, New York City has been shielding these disciplinary records from public eye, perpetuating the lack of transparency and accountability we have become too familiar with from the NYPD.

The failure of the NYPD to properly discipline Officer Pantaleo is a violation of public trust and safety, and sends a clear message that misconduct will be tolerated.  Furthermore, the employee from the CCRB who leaked the document has been forced to resign. Forcing a city employee, who exposed information for the sake of transparency, to resign while the officer who killed Eric Garner remains employed by the NYPD is shameful. The Progressive Caucus calls for disciplinary action to be undertaken by the NYPD against Officer Pantaleo, a full release of information from the NYPD on Eric Garner’s case, and for the CCRB to review its wrongful termination of a staff member.
