(WASHINGTON D.C., 2/23/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the repeated white supremacist vandalism of a Black Lives Matter mural in North Carolina.

A mural near Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., was defaced with hate graffiti of the Patriot Front white supremacist group, including “Better dead than red” and “Reject poison.” CAIR condemned the racist vandalism of the same mural last year.

“With growing white supremacist bigotry impacting minority communities nationwide, all Americans need to speak out against acts of racist hate,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “This type of hate incident shows how fearful racists are of a nation in which all people are treated with justice.”

He noted that yesterday, CAIR supported a call by the NAACP to remove a Confederate monument from outside a courthouse in Robeson County, N.C.

Hooper said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry.
