The highly paid racist comedienne Roseanne Barr was fired by ABC today as her show was cancelled after she tweeted that former Obama senior Valerie Jarrette was born from cross-breeding “muslim brotherhood” and “planet of the apes.”
The hate-monger who apparently either stays up late or wakes up early to share her wisdom tweeted at 2:45 AM on May 29.
Within hours she had been fired and her highly rated show “Roseanne” canceled by ABC. “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement today.
Bob Iger, CEO of ABC’s parent, Disney, tweeted: “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.”
Barr was also dropped by her agent, ICM Partners, which in a statement said: “What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency…..Consequently, we have notified her that we will not represent her. Effective immediately, Roseanne Barr is no longer a client.”
Meanwhile the civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton in a statement said: “ABC Television has done the right thing by immediately cancelling Roseanne. Whether it was Imus calling the Rutgers University women’s basketball disparaging names, a cartoonist at the NY Post making a cartoon of President Barack Obama portraying him as an ape, or a well-refined public servant like Valerie Jarrett being depicted as an ape by Roseanne Barr, there is no place in media for racism. Racism should not be tolerated by media that depends on corporate advertisers that make their money selling their goods to Americans. We will be vigilant and hold those accountable that use public airwaves to spread hate. We are prepared to go to city Comptrollers to have them drop stocks in media companies that engage in bigotry and racism. We salute the rapid response of ABC but we will continue to look into the hiring and business practices of all that shape public opinion in American culture.”
An estimated 18.4 million people watched “Roseanne” when the rebooted show returned March 27, 2018. Donald Trump called Barr to congratulate her and he later boasted that her show–where her character plays a Trump supporter– “was about us.” Barr is a real-life supporter of Trump.
She was reportedly making $250,000 per episode. The series first ran from 1988 to 1997. During the last year of the series’ first run, Barr earned $21 million.
