Washington, DC — At its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on November 23, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio, the Nigerian in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDO Americas) General Assembly (NIDOA-GA) deliberated extensively on critical issues affecting the organization’s operational structure under the theme: “New Nigeria, Fresh Progress, Vision of United NIDO.”
The deliberative business session, attended by members and two observers, focused on years of disruptions, grievances, and harmful activities that have undermined the organization’s unity and credibility.
Key Issues Discussed:
The assembly highlighted persistent challenges, including:
- Deliberate misinterpretation of NIDOA Bylaws for personal gain.
- Bylaws violations and misconduct.
- Dissemination of misinformation and defamation of the NIDO Americas brand.
- Misrepresentation, impersonation, and trademark infringement.
- Theft and breach of the NIDO Americas membership database.
- Illegal hosting of parallel AGMs and false communications with Nigerian government officials.
- Formation of unauthorized parallel NIDO structures with fake leadership titles.
- Alignment with the Nigerian Inspiring Development Organization, Calgary, Canada to sabotage and undermine the activities of NIDOA
Despite exhaustive efforts to reconcile with the breakaway actors, the assembly concluded that decisive action was necessary to protect the integrity and mission of NIDO Americas.

- Reaffirmation of Leadership:
The following Executive Members of NIDO Americas’ Board were unanimously elected to steer the organization until the next election (date to be determined):- Chairman: Dr. Victor Ubani
- Vice Chairman: Ms. Bukola Sonuga
- Secretary General: Dr. Toyin Ajayi
- Community Affairs Director: Mr. Felix Okhifo
- Treasurer: Dr. Helen Abasute
- Financial Secretary: Dr. Perpetua Uwechue
- Public Relations Officer: Mr. Chris Anukwu

The assembly remains committed to advancing NIDO Americas’ mission to promote unity and foster progress among Nigerians in the diaspora. With renewed leadership and focus, NIDO Americas aims to rebuild trust, restore operational integrity, and continue driving meaningful impact for Nigerians worldwide.
