The Justice for Carl Dorsey March And Rally will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2022, 12:00 noon, starting at the Lincoln Statue, 12 Springfield Ave in Newark, NJ.
The march is sponsored by People’s Organization For Progress (POP). The Lincoln Statue is located at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and West Market Street.
January 1st will mark the first anniversary of the day when Carl Dorsey, who was unarmed, was shot and killed by a Newark police detective.
“We are marching because we want justice for Carl Dorsey and his family. We are marching because we want answers and a complete and thorough investigation into the shooting,” stated Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress. “We are marching because we want the officer who killed him to be held accountable for his death.”
“It’s been a year since the death of Mr. Dorsey. We want to know from New Jersey Acting Attorney General Andrew J Bruck what is the current status of Mr Dorsey’s case,” Hamm said. “We also want Acting U.S. Attorney Rachel A Honig to launch a civil rights investigation into the death of Mr. Dorsey.”
“We are not going to let this case be swept under the rug. We must continue the struggle against police brutality,” Hamm added.
Several members of Mr Dorsey’s family will be present to speak at the rally. Other community leaders and activists will also address the gathering.
Those planning to attend the march are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
