On Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, New York State Senator Cordell Cleare will be joined by community partners, for the “New” New Yorkers Resource Fair at the historic Masjid Malcolm Shabazz at 102 West 116th Street in New York City.
This is a community event for the New ‘New Yorkers,’ also known as the migrants and asylum-seekers. Alongside New York State Senator Cordell Cleare’s office, this is a community and local business-sponsored resource fair. There will be experts on hand to help them navigate the path to stability which includes housing, healthcare, and legal services.
This event is being held in partnership with the African Services Center, Metro Plus Health Services, Ryan Health Group, the 116th Community Association, the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), the Mayor’s Office of Asylum Seeker Operations (OASO), and the NYPD.
There are thousands of new, New Yorkers who are struggling to establish themselves in Harlem, and this is an effort to help them in this process. As the winter continues, the Office of Senator Cordell Cleare has held two other similar events, this will be the third.
Senator Cleare said, “My office gets numerous walk-ins and phone calls from migrants who need urgent assistance. While we appreciate the proposed $2.4 billion baseline set aside for New York by Governor Kathy Hochul, thousands of migrants are arriving daily, with the goal of making Harlem their home. So, as we await the federal government to designate comparable funds for the City; my office and our community partners will continue to host these types of events as the need continues to grow.”
