A citywide day of action has been called for this Wednesday, in New York City, by transit advocates demanding Governor Andrew Cuomo deliver on accessibility for the proposed new MTA subway stations.
Across the city on Wednesday, transit riders will petition Governor Andrew Cuomo to fund the MTA’s plan to make 70 subway stations newly accessible, completing the MTA capital program within the plan years and implementing congestion pricing without new carve-outs for special interests.
The event will kick off in downtown Brooklyn at a partially accessible station due to become fully accessible as part of the MTA’s 2020 – 2024 capital program.
Transit riders and grassroots advocates from the Riders Alliance, Straphangers Campaign, TransitCenter, UPSTAND, AARP-NY, United Spinal Association, Transportation Alternatives, and CUNY Association for Students with Disabilities (CCSD) will all be in attendance.
The riders and advocates will kick off a citywide, multi-platform photo-petition drive urging Governor Cuomo to fund the MTA’s station accessibility plan, delivering an on-time MTA capital program and rolling out congestion pricing with no new exemptions.
The event will be launched on Wednesday, March 11, at 11 am at Brooklyn’s Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street A/C/G Subway Station (east corner of the intersection near the ‘elevator to mezzanine’)..
