NEW YORK – The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has opened an investigation into the death of DaShawn Larode, who died on November 17, 2025 following an encounter with members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) in Brooklyn.

During the early morning hours of November 17, NYPD officers responded to a 911 call reporting an injured person in front of an apartment building on Thomas S. Boyland Street in Brooklyn.
When officers arrived and entered the apartment building, Mr. Larode opened an apartment door and allegedly fired a shotgun at the officers, grazing one officer’s face. The injured officer discharged his service weapon, striking Mr. Larode. Mr. Larode was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NYPD officer was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
