New Jersey (March 24, 2025) – A new poll released by MDW Communications over the weekend shows Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka tied as frontrunner in the Democratic primary for New Jersey governor. In the recently-released polling, Mayor Baraka had the support of 11.5 percent of voters – within the margin of error of the leading candidate – with 48.4 percent of voters still undecided.

“This poll confirms what we’ve been seeing on the ground and in other surveys: Ras Baraka has real grassroots momentum,” said a campaign spokesperson. “He hasn’t spent nearly as much as other candidates, which shows that his support is authentic, and his message is resonating. Ras is the Democrat voters trust to fight for their values — and this is just the beginning.”

“Our survey shows a race that is within the margin of error and essentially tied, and Mayor Baraka clearly has the momentum,” said Michael Worley, Senior Partner and CEO of MDW. “Over the past 6 weeks, Baraka has gained steadily with key demographics statewide, especially Black and Latino voters. With roughly half of all voters undecided, our data shows that he has the momentum heading into the most important and decisive period of this race.”

The poll weighted responses by age, race, and gender to reflect projected turnout. The results confirm Baraka’s emergence as a top-tier candidate with broad appeal across New Jersey’s diverse Democratic electorate.
