The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) has endorsed the “January 6 Rally To Protect Democracy.” The rally will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2022, 6:30pm at Spiotta Park, 20-32 Village Plaza in South Orange, NJ.
The event is sponsored by NJ Working Families Alliance. Spiotta Park is located at the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Village Plaza.
“On January 6, 2021 there was an attempted coup in the United States. Violent white supremacists and fascists attacked the Capitol Building and Congress with the intent of preventing Joe Biden, who had won the 2020 presidential election, from taking office,” stated Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, of the People’s Organization For Progress. “This was a blatant attempt to overturn an election and subvert the democratic process. Fortunately, this time it failed. However, the efforts of Donald Trump and those who supported the coup are ongoing.”
“POP has endorsed this rally for democracy because it will focus public attention on what we can do to stop future coup attempts, and how we can protect voting rights and elections in this country,” Hamm said. “There is a right-wing racist and fascist movement in this country that is hell bent on seizing power through voter-suppression and intimidation, curtailment of voting rights, gerrymandering, interfering with elections and other anti-democratic means.”
“We must strengthen the movement for democracy as a countervailing force against those who want to drag us backwards. This is why we urge everyone who cares about democracy to attend the rally,” Hamm added.
