A program to observe the centennial anniversary of the birthday of Malcolm X will be held this weekend.

“Celebrating Our Black Shining Malcolm X @100,” will take place Saturday, May 17, 2025, 12 noon at the Plainfield Public Library, 800 Park Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey.
The program will include speakers, cultural and video presentations, and a discussion with the audience.
Speakers will include Bill Davis a well known educator, author, community activist, and an organizer of the event who will also moderate the program.
Also featured on the program is Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress. Both speakers will discuss the relevance of Malcolm X to the challenges of our time.
There will be presentations from vocalist Tamara Horn and poet Lyle Omolayo. Video highlights from speeches by Malcolm X will be shown.

A portion of the program will involve questions from the audience for the speakers. This will lead into a discussion of the impact of Malcolm X on the black community and the world.
He was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925. During his lifetime he rose to become an internationally known figure in black people’s struggle against racism and oppression at home and abroad.
Malcolm X was one of the foremost spokespersons for black liberation, self-determination, and human rights. He was assassinated at the age of 39 on February 21, 1965 in New York City.
