Daughter and late father.
In Sreyashi Ghosh’s life, she has been inspired by many places, people and things, but none so much as that of her father, Dr. Somen Ghosh. An eye surgeon who worked with the National Health Service in London and in private practice in India, Dr. Ghosh died in May, after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
While his medical work was notable, it was his selfless social service that served as inspiration for his only child. After Dr. Ghosh returned to India, he worked with Mother Teresa.
“He inspired me a great deal,” said Ghosh, who has lived in Bridgewater since 2012. “I am trying to follow his legacy in that regard. I was always inspired by whatever my dad did. Surgeons usually have super busy lives and they don’t do pro bono work so much, but my dad believed in giving a lot to the community.”
In honor of her father, Ghosh, an author, artist, musician and peace advocate/activist, will be donating all proceeds from a Nov. 9 book signing event of “My Soul On A Platter,” her book of poetry, to the National Alzheimer’s Association. Launched by President Ronald Reagan, the National Alzheimer’s Association is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
