An exhibition in New York is exploring the role played by fashion in shaping Black cultures around the world.
“Africa’s Fashion Diaspora,” at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, looks at the ways in which fashion forms common cultural networks across the African diaspora.
The exhibition, opened in September and will continue until Dec. 29, features 60 ensembles and accessories by Black designers from around the world.
“These designers take complex inspirations from their own Black cultures and others across the diaspora,” wrote the team behind the exhibition.
“Africa’s Fashion Diaspora” has been curated by fashion historian Elizabeth Way whose work focuses on Black cultures.
