2. Rosa Parks 

American civil rights activist Rosa Parks smiling after a Supreme Court ruling banning segregation on city public transit vehicles took effect. Parks’ arrest on December 1st, 1955, for refusing to give up her seat to a white person led to the successful 381 day Montgomery bus boycott.

Rosa Loise McCauley Parks was born on February 3, 1913. She took part and played a major role in the civil rights movement for social rights. Rosa Parks is also known as the mother of the freedom movement. She died in the year 2005. She died when she was 92. Rosa Parks is famous for the Montgomery bus boycott, an incident where she fought for equality. Raymond Parks married Rosa Parks. 

Rosa Parks resisted the color separation in the bus. The bus driver asked her to vacate the seat for colored people for a white lady as the white section was filled. Rosa Parks disagreed to do so. This incident took place in Alabama. Rosa Parks was arrested as she did not follow the rules imposed. Rosa Parks became an icon for her resistance to inequality.

Mohammed Ali was born in the year 1942 and was great at sports. The nickname of Mohammed Ali was the greatest. He is a heavyweight boxer. He was the champion of Ring magazine’s heavyweight title from 1964 till 1970. Mohamed Ali was named as the sports personality of the century by BBC in the year 1999. 7. Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman, an American social activist was born in the year 1822. She died on March 10, 1913. Harriet Tubman escaped slavery. The other names of Harriet Tubman are Minty and Moses. She has helped enslaved people to become free. She was a nurse and a civil rights activist. 

She also helped the freed people to find some kind of work to live. In the Civil War, Harriet Tubman worked as a cook, nurse, armed scout, and also as a spy. She guided enslaved people to freedom and liberation. Harriet Tubman is considered as an icon of courage.

8. Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth was born in the year 1797. Sojourner Truth was a civil rights activist. Sojourner Truth escaped slavery with her daughter in 1826. She was able to free her son in 1828. She won legally against a white man to free her son and became the first black woman to do so. Sojourner Truth fought for the rights of women and rights for them till her death. Maya Angelou is also another influential poet and civil rights activist. She was born in the year 1928 and died in 2014. Maya Angelou also worked as a producer of plays and movies.
