Multicultural Media and Correspondents Association (MMCA) will convene the nation’s leaders in media advocacy (including NABJ President Dorothy Tucker) for a first-ever roundtable on race featuring all BIPOC representation on Wednesday, March 31st.
The roundtable, an all-hands on deck reckoning on race, will address the Atlanta hate crimes, the Boulder shooting, the rise in right wing extremism and the critical need for more representation in newsrooms across the country. The all-women led advocacy groups representing media owners, reporters, publishers, and executives includes:
- Julie Burton, Executive Director, Women’s Media Center
- Heather Cohen, Board Chair, Alliance for Women in Media
- Francine Compton, President, Native American Journalist Association
- Michelle Lee, Chair Asian American Journalists Association
- Nora Lopez, President, National Association of Hispanic Journalists
- Lisa Matthews, President, National Press Club
- Dorothy Tucker, President, National Association of Black Journalists
The power, resilience, and selflessness of this extraordinary group of women leaders in the fight for media diversity, and their roles in ensuring all underrepresented voices are heard, will be celebrated during the MMCA’s inaugural “Sheroes in Media” Award Gala, immediately preceding the discussion.
The Sheroes in Media Gala, will be co-emceed by Alicia Menendez, Anchor and Host – MSNBC and author of The Likeability Trap and Inaugural MMCDTM Broadcast Journalist of the Year honoree, and by Richard Lui, Anchor – MSNBC and NBC News and author of Enough About Me: The Unexpected Power of Selflessness.

The event will feature an award ceremony and a performance by comedian Gina Brillon followed by a first-ever moderated roundtable discussion with all of the honorees. VIP guests will gather in a virtual room for a cocktail reception and then view the program.
