Wednesday, a Minneapolis Catholic church became the latest American killing field to witness the continuing mass shooting gun violence crisis—where children were the targets.

Reports say two children were killed, and 17 injured, while they were attending mass at the Annunciation Catholic School. The gunman, still unidentified, and said to be in his early 20’s, killed himself.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the shooter had at least three weapons: a shotgun, rifle, and pistol. Police say he fired all three weapons.
“This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping. The sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible,” said Chief O’Hara. “We are looking through information left behind to try and determine some type of motive.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, at a news conference, said the following: “Don’t just say, ‘This is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school. They were in a church. These are kids that should be learning with their friends, they should be playing on the playground. They should be able to go to school or church in peace without the fear or risk of violence, and their parents should have the same kind of assurance. This kind of act of evil should never happen, and it happens far too often.”
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said, “I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and will continue to provide updates as we get more information. The BCA and State Patrol are on scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said, “These kids are doing the all-school mass and had to watch several of her friends get shot. One in the back, one in the neck, and they all got down under the pews. Right now, my thoughts are with the people I know and the state I love. But this is going on all over the nation and has for too long…we need better laws on the books nationally.”
