[Our Model Of The Day]

Where She’s From: Myrline Francois, born and raised in Cap-Haitien, in Haiti, goes by the name Mimi.

“I moved to Florida in 1998, when I 14,” she tells The Black Star News. “The most important things I learned from my parents were how to survive and be strong in life and how not to depend on people but yourself and God.”

Mimi attended Dillard High School and then Broward Community College working to get Associates in Radiology.

Where She’s At:
Mimi started modeling when she was 16. It all started when her mailman one day asked, “Are you a model?” The question inspired her into launching her career. She was soon in fashion shows,
videos and working as movie extras.

“In the next few years I would love to see myself on the big screen,” she adds. “I mean I have such a strong passion for acting–it’s like food to my soul.” She’s currently working on two Haitian films.

“I always had to work hard for everything, but It’s not a bad thing,” Mimi says, when asked about how she deals with challenges.

“I am a very ambitious person and I always try to find a way to get what I want. The hardest thing that I had to deal with was the loss of my father. We were like best friends in a way and I just didn’t see it coming and I had plans for us, you know so I wasn’t ready to see him go. I overcome his death by praying and knowing that he’s still around in spirit.”

“I’m so grateful for everything in my life. I mean I have no regrets if I was to stop modeling today, just because I had the chance to already live some of part of my dreams in some way,” she adds.

She concedes there are many models that portray themselves as “dumb” and “stupid.” She adds, “I am a very strong and intelligent woman and I can overcome anything. so I love the fact that I want to be other things in life besides a beauty symbol. I want to be known as a beautiful, smart, successful, intelligent, person, who is more than just a model.”

“I want to get to travel the world where I can supply food, clothes and education to needy children and families from around the world. That’s my goal.”

So how does this young beauty prepare to step out?

“Well I don’t really have a preferred brand name for clothes as long as I feel comfortable. I have a shoe fetish; I actually like BCBG, Nine west shoes. As far as lotions I like to use natural products on my skin, I mostly use cocoa butter. I love Dolce and Gabana light it’s my favorite perfume and for makeup I enjoy wearing MAC.”
