Mayor Mamdani is calling on President Trump to end all ICE enforcement actions in New York City after a federal immigration agent shot a man in Marble Hill yesterday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m. Thursday, plainclothes federal agents approached a car near 2 Marble Hill Avenue during a targeted enforcement operation. According to the NYPD, at least one ICE agent fired seven rounds, striking the driver, 28-year-old Oscar Belgal, in the neck. His 5-year-old son was in the car. Mr. Belgal was taken to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in stable condition, and the child is safe with family.
Mayor Mamdani was on the scene in the Bronx within hours and spent two hours on the phone with President Trump and DHS Secretary Mullin that same night, demanding the release of the man, an end to ICE enforcement in our city and making clear that ICE’s presence here undermines public safety.
“This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation,” said Mayor Mamdani. “I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.”
Speaking at the scene last night, he added: “There is no explanation for federal officers firing this many rounds into a car that has a 5-year-old.”
