The white woman who called NYPD on a Black man to falsely say he was threatening her will be charged with filing a false police report.

Today, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced they would charge Amy Cooper for calling the NYPD on May 25 and accusing Christian Cooper (no relation) of threatening her.

Ms. Cooper was offended because the Black Mr. Cooper, who was birdwatching, told her she was violating park rules by not having her dog on a leash. In retaliation for this, Ms. Cooper told Mr. Cooper that she would call NYPD and “tell them there’s an African American man threatening my life.” After Mr. Cooper, who videotaped the whole incident told her to go ahead, she proceeded to call 911 and said an “African American” man is “threatening me and my dog. I’m being threatened by a man in the Ramble, please send the cops immediately.”

In a press release, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said:

“Today our Office initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree. Our office will provide the public with additional information as the case proceeds. At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our Office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable.”

The Manhattan District Attorney Office also said the D.A.’s Office issued a Desk Appearance Ticket to Ms. Cooper for arraignment on October 14, 2020.
