All three Albany leaders — Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Speaker Carl Heastie, and Governor Kathy Hochul — rallied in support of Zohran Mamdani’s plan to deliver universal childcare.
“Here’s something I can tell you personally as New York’s first mom Governor. We need childcare. And it’s got to be universal,” said Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York.
“Under the leadership of Zohran, he will be the fighter we need in City Hall — a beacon of change for our communities that have felt unheard for far too long,” said Carl Heastie, Speaker of the New York State Assembly.
“You get out there, do not rest, do not stop. Knock on every door. Get people out there to vote because we don’t have another chance. We can’t miss this chance.” said Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Majority Leader of the New York State Senate.
The event was capped off with rousing speeches by headliners Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, before Zohran Mamdani took the stage.
“Do not underestimate our opponents. They have a huge amount of money, and they are spending it right now. So I urge you to forget about the polls. Go into the last eight days of this election, assuming that you are five points behind,” said Senator Bernie Sanders. “You guys are going to have to — along with the other 80,000 volunteers in the Mamdani campaign — you’ve got to do everything that you can to bring people to the polls in early voting, which is taking place right now and on Election Day. None of us want to wake up the day after the election and find that we lost that election because our opponents outworked us. That must not happen.”
“It has always been in our nation’s darkest chapters that our brightest lights emerge,” said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “We — our city — have chosen to adorn ourselves with the nation’s greatest monument to freedom, the Statue of Liberty, and she reminds us every day that the central commitment of America is unconditional freedom. Precisely the kind that cannot be bought, that is available to the huddled masses yearning to be free.”
